First and foremost, I am excited that there is a plan to bring our K-8 students fully back for in-person learning this April. I have been an advocate for in-person learning since this summer when I initially wrote to our Superintendent and SC to push for as much in-person learning as possible. As a business owner who must work with my local health and government officials I understand the requirements and challenges that our district must overcome in order to bring kids back for full in-person learning.
I will support and build upon our culture of meeting the need of ALL students. From our challenged learners to our advanced learners and EVERYONE on between – I will advocate for the academic success of ALL students. Working with young children every day, I know the importance of creating an enriching learning environment and I will always support the needs of each individual child.
I am supportive of our district’s effort to focus on equity, diversity and inclusion as this is something deeply important to me both as a parent and a community member. Having moved from the melting pot city of Los Angeles to Sudbury when my kids were 2 and 4, I found myself as a parent suddenly needing to educate my children on diversity instead of living it every day. Weaving diversity, equity and inclusion into the culture of our district is imperative so that our students understand and respect their neighbors and all our differences – not just in our community but in our global world all around us.
As a business owner, I fully understand the importance of managing resources to keep a balanced budget year to year. It is of the biggest reasons I am uniquely qualified to serve on the SC. The role and responsibility of a SC member and one of a school administrator is very different and my expertise as a business owner will serve our town well in regards to my unbiased job on the School Committee – especially as the SC is in charge of the collective bargaining of the district. I promise to always be the community voice of our students, parents and taxpayers.
I will support expanding our technology and STEAM programming. I will champion for Special Education and embrace professional development. I will promote personalized instruction. I will support our teachers and staff who have given my family SO much in terms of both the instructional experience for my kids and their social and emotional well-being.
I am collaborative and positive by nature. I love to problem solve and manage resources. I have a willingness to listen and learn and I have spent the past 10 years serving our schools while expanding my small business and I am ready for this job and I ask for your vote on March 29th.
